SAFE Backpacker prepares travellers with the awareness, confidence and practical skills needed to explore the world safely. Whether heading away for a gap year, solo adventure, volunteering project or long term travel experience, the course provides practical guidance and realistic learning to help travellers make informed decisions in unfamiliar environments.
Course Overview
Travelling independently can be one of life’s greatest experiences. It creates opportunities, develops confidence and allows people to experience different cultures and environments. However, unfamiliar places can also present challenges that many travellers have never faced before.
SAFE Backpacker has been designed to help travellers prepare before they leave and make safer decisions while away. The programme explores practical areas including travel planning, accommodation safety, transport awareness, scams, theft, personal security, situational awareness and responding to unexpected incidents. Research across travel safety programmes highlights that preparation and awareness significantly reduce avoidable risks while travelling abroad.
Through practical examples and realistic scenarios, learners build confidence and develop skills that help them travel independently while staying alert, informed and prepared.
About the Trainer
Delivered by 1705 Consultancy as a licensed SAFHEE® Delivery Provider. SAFHEE® (Security Awareness in Fragile and Hostile Events and Environments) is a registered training standard owned by Comera Risk Ltd and trusted by organisations that send people to volatile locations worldwide.
Training is delivered by experienced professionals from policing, security, emergency response and international travel risk backgrounds. Trainers combine operational experience with practical travel insight to ensure learning remains realistic, engaging and directly relevant to modern travel.

Delegates must be 18 or over and able to take part in practical sessions. Some advanced courses require a SAFE course to have been completed first, so ask us if you are unsure.
