HEAT: Hostile Environment Awareness Training
An immersive hostile environment training programme designed for personnel operating in fragile, unstable or elevated threat environments where medical emergencies, civil unrest, hostile actors, infrastructure collapse and critical incidents may occur. Course Overview
The HEAT Course has been designed to prepare individuals and organisations for the realities of operating within hostile, unpredictable and rapidly evolving environments where support may be delayed, infrastructure limited and threats capable of escalating quickly.
This advanced hostile environment programme combines protective security awareness, operational resilience, emergency medical care, travel risk management and survival decision making into a highly practical and immersive learning experience. Delegates are exposed to realistic scenarios designed to replicate the pressures, uncertainty and challenges often encountered during international deployments, humanitarian operations, media assignments, disaster response and high risk travel.
The programme develops practical understanding surrounding situational awareness, movement planning, behavioural threat recognition, kidnap awareness, indirect fire response, IED awareness, hostile actor incidents, emergency communication and prolonged casualty care. Learners also develop confidence in making informed decisions under stress while maintaining personal safety and supporting others during crisis situations.
HEAT training focuses heavily on practical application, human factors and survivability rather than classroom theory alone. The course is designed to help organisations meet wider duty of care responsibilities while ensuring personnel are better prepared both mentally and operationally for hostile or fragile environments.

Yes. It is part of the SAFHEE® training standard owned by Comera Risk Ltd and delivered by 1705 Consultancy as a licensed SAFHEE® Delivery Provider. The syllabus is accredited by Highfield, and you receive a certificate on successful completion.
Your certificate stays current for a set period, after which you renew it with the Re-HEAT refresher course. SAFE certification is valid for three years.
Delegates must be 18 or over and able to take part in practical sessions. Some advanced courses require a SAFE course to have been completed first, so ask us if you are unsure.
