Debriefs and Lessons Identified
Independent, structured debriefs after an incident, event or exercise, so you find out what really happened, what worked and what needs to change. We facilitate hot and structured debriefs, capture lessons identified and give you a written report and action plan.
Course Overview
Most organisations hold some kind of review after an incident, but few capture the lessons in a way that changes anything. People are tired, the loudest voices dominate, and the same problems come back at the next event. An independent, structured debrief fixes that.
We facilitate debriefs after real incidents, events and exercises, from a short hot debrief straight after the event to a structured debrief with managers, staff and partner agencies days later. Everyone gets a fair hearing, discussion stays focused on what happened and why, not on blame, and the decisions and timeline are captured accurately.
You receive a written report setting out what worked, what did not, the lessons identified and a practical action plan, so lessons identified become lessons learned. This also gives you a clear record for insurers, regulators, inquests or inquiries if you need one.
This is one of our emergency procedures services: Tabletop Exercises, Evacuation Drills, Invacuation and Lockdown, Bomb Threat and Suspicious Item Procedures, Multi Agency Live Exercises and Debriefs and Lessons Identified. If you need the plans themselves written or reviewed, see our Emergency Plans consultancy.
About the Trainer
Certified by 1705 Consultancy and delivered by former emergency services staff who have planned, run and taken part in real incidents and exercises. 1705 Consultancy also writes emergency plans and provides event command and safety management on live events, so we know what a plan needs to do when it is tested for real.
Frequently Asked Questions
A hot debrief happens straight after an incident or event, while it is fresh, to capture immediate issues and welfare needs. A structured debrief takes place later, with more preparation, and looks in depth at what happened, why, and what should change.
An independent facilitator keeps the discussion fair and focused on learning rather than blame, makes sure every voice is heard, and produces a record that others can trust.
