Course Overview

This is the knowledge qualification for people starting out as stewards. It is well suited to volunteers and new staff who support more experienced stewards at sports grounds, concerts, festivals and community events.

The qualification has five mandatory units, 36 guided learning hours and 110 hours total qualification time. Learners work through the content with support from our tutor and build a portfolio of evidence, which we assess. They also complete the free ACT Awareness eLearning, which is required to achieve the qualification. Workshops at your venue can be added for groups.

Please note: the Sports Grounds Safety Authority does not accept this Award as an alternative to the Level 2 Certificate in Spectator Safety. Stewards in safety roles at designated sports grounds need the Certificate. This Award is a good first step towards it, and what learners achieve here can count towards the Certificate.

About the Trainer

Delivered by 1705 Consultancy, a QNUK approved centre, and led by Rob Brettell, a former Essex Police Detective Inspector with 23 years’ service. Rob works as a safety adviser and commander at live events, so the training is built on how incidents really unfold at venues and festivals, not just the theory.
