Martyn’s Law Readiness Workshop

A one day workshop at your premises for the people responsible for your site or events. We work through Martyn’s Law with your team and write your public protection procedures with you, so you leave with a draft for evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication, ready to test.

Course Overview

Martyn’s Law, the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, requires standard tier premises to have public protection procedures in place, and enhanced tier premises and events to go further. Understanding the law is the easy part. Writing procedures that work on your site, with your staff, is where most organisations get stuck.

This workshop deals with that. We spend the day with the people who will own the procedures: the responsible person, managers, supervisors and your security or safety leads. We start with what the Act requires and which tier you fall into, then build each procedure in turn around your layout, your staffing and the way your premises actually run.

You leave with draft procedures for evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication, agreed roles, a prioritised list of what still needs doing and a plan for testing it all. If you want more support afterwards, we can test the procedures through an emergency exercise or train your staff through the accredited Level 2 Award.

The Act does not require you to buy training. It requires you to have procedures that work. This day gets them written.

About the Trainer

The workshop is delivered by the 1705 Consultancy team, led by a former Essex Police Detective Inspector with 23 years’ service. We deliver the accredited Level 3 CTPSaP and Level 4 Protective Security Adviser qualifications and provide event command and safety management on live events, so the procedures we help you write are ones we would be prepared to run ourselves.

The people who will own and run the procedures: the responsible person, managers, supervisors and your security or safety leads. The day works best with 6 to 12 people, and we can take up to 30.

It helps to send us a site plan, your capacity figures and any existing emergency plans before the day. If you have nothing written down yet, that is fine. We start from where you are.

It gives you the procedures the standard tier requires, in draft. You will still need to finalise them, brief your staff and notify the SIA once the regime opens. We can help with each step, and the duties are not expected to start before April 2027.

No. The 90 minute Martyn’s Law Briefing for Managers explains the law. The workshop is a full working day that produces your procedures.

Yes. For organisations with several premises we can build a common set of procedures and adapt them for each site, or run the workshop at each location.
