Invacuation and Lockdown Drills
Practical Protective Security Drills for Schools, Venues and Public Facing Premises
Realistic invacuation and lockdown drill training designed to help organisations protect people when leaving the site may not be the safest option.
Not every emergency requires evacuation. In some situations, moving people outside can increase risk and expose them to greater danger.
Our Invacuation and Lockdown Drills help organisations test how they would move people to safer internal areas, secure spaces, communicate instructions, account for people and maintain calm during hostile, suspicious or rapidly developing incidents.
Course Overview
Invacuation and lockdown procedures are now an essential part of modern emergency planning, particularly for schools, colleges, public facing premises and organisations preparing for Martyn’s Law.
NPSA guidance identifies evacuation, invacuation and lockdown as the three primary methods of moving people away from danger during terrorist incidents, hostile situations and other life threatening events. Government guidance for schools and colleges also makes clear that security arrangements should support safeguarding and emergency preparedness.
This course moves organisations beyond simply having a lockdown policy on paper. It tests whether staff understand the difference between evacuation, invacuation and lockdown, whether communication systems work effectively and whether people know what to do when incidents develop quickly.
Training can be tailored to schools, colleges, hospitality venues, community buildings, retail environments, places of worship and other public facing locations. Scenarios may include hostile intruders, suspicious packages, violent incidents nearby, protest activity, severe weather or other situations where remaining inside or moving internally may be safer than evacuation.
Unlike a simple policy briefing, this course provides practical rehearsal, observation and structured debriefing. It helps organisations understand the real human factors involved during lockdown situations including confusion, fear, communication delays, accountability challenges and the management of visitors, pupils or vulnerable persons.
The course also supports Martyn’s Law preparedness by helping organisations demonstrate that emergency procedures are not only written, but understood, proportionate and capable of being implemented during a real incident.
About the Trainer
Training is delivered by experienced operational professionals with backgrounds in policing, emergency planning, protective security, safeguarding, incident command and public safety.
Our approach is calm, proportionate and practical. We understand that lockdown and invacuation drills must be handled carefully, particularly in schools and settings involving children or vulnerable people.
The aim is not to create fear. It is to create confidence, clarity and a rehearsed response that helps people know what to do, where to go, how to communicate and how to protect others during a fast moving incident.
