Crisis Communication and Media Training
A two day course that prepares your organisation to communicate when it matters most. Day one builds your crisis communication plan and the first hour response. Day two puts your spokespeople in front of the camera. Delivered by a media expert who has reported on emergencies for mainstream news.
Course Overview
In a crisis, what you say and how quickly you say it shapes how your organisation is judged. Staff, families, customers, partners and the media all want information at once, social media fills any silence with rumour, and the first interview can define the story.
This course is delivered by a media expert who has worked in emergency reporting and mainstream media, so delegates learn how journalists actually cover a crisis and what they need from you. It brings together what used to be two separate courses, crisis communication and press and media handling.
Day one: the crisis communication plan. The first hour, holding statements, deciding who speaks and what can be said, communicating with staff and families, working alongside the emergency services when they lead public messaging, monitoring social media and correcting misinformation, and a scenario in which the team drafts and releases its first statements as the incident develops.
Day two: media and spokesperson training. How newsrooms cover an incident, key messages, recorded television and radio interviews, doorstep questions, press conferences and handling hostile or sensitive questions, with each spokesperson filmed, played back and coached.
