Personal Safety and Breakaway Skills
Non-restrictive Personal Protection and Escape Training
Practical personal safety and non-restrictive breakaway training designed to help staff recognise danger early, reduce risk and safely disengage from physical confrontation.
This course is designed for organisations and individuals who may face aggression, unwanted physical contact, threatening behaviour or lone working risks as part of their role.
Focusing on prevention first, the course combines behavioural awareness, conflict reduction, situational safety and non-restrictive breakaway techniques to help learners create space, escape safely and seek assistance without relying on restraint or physical control methods.
Course Overview
Violence and aggression towards workers continues to rise across many sectors including healthcare, hospitality, retail, education, housing, transport, events and public services.
The Health and Safety Executive makes clear that employers have legal duties to protect workers from work related violence and aggression, including verbal abuse, threats and physical assault. HSE guidance also highlights the importance of personal safety and conflict management training where workers may be exposed to these risks.
This course has been designed around the realities faced by frontline staff who may encounter intimidation, unwanted physical contact, emotionally heightened behaviour or isolated working situations.
Learners develop practical understanding of behavioural warning signs, positioning, environmental awareness, dynamic risk assessment and lawful non-restrictive breakaway techniques designed to create distance and support safe withdrawal from danger.
Unlike physical intervention or restraint training, this course focuses on prevention, awareness, disengagement and personal safety rather than control or restraint techniques.
The programme is particularly suited to organisations wanting to improve staff confidence and workplace safety while reducing the risk of escalation, injury or inappropriate physical intervention.
About the Trainer
