Advanced De-escalation and Incident Leadership

A two day in person course for staff who may need to lead, control and resolve challenging incidents involving conflict, aggression or heightened behaviour.

Advanced De-escalation and Incident Leadership is designed for supervisors, managers, team leaders, security leads and operational staff who may be expected to take control when a situation has already escalated or has the potential to become serious.

This course moves beyond basic communication skills and focuses on incident leadership, dynamic risk assessment, lawful and proportionate decision making, team coordination and practical de-escalation under pressure.

Course Overview

Work-related violence and aggression is a real operational risk for many organisations.  The Health and Safety Executive makes clear that employers have duties to protect workers from work-related violence, including verbal abuse and physical assault.  It also highlights the importance of suitable controls, training and risk assessment where violence and aggression may occur.

This two day course is designed for those who may have to lead the response to conflict, not simply survive it.

Learners explore how incidents develop, how emotions and behaviour change under pressure and how leaders can influence outcomes through calm communication, positioning, decision making and coordinated action.

The course includes practical skills, realistic scenarios and structured incident leadership exercises.  It is designed to help learners assess risk, support colleagues, protect vulnerable people, communicate clearly, reduce escalation and recover professionally after an incident.

Unlike De-escalation Essentials, this course is aimed at people who may be expected to make decisions, direct others and take ownership of a live or developing situation.

About the Trainer

Training is delivered by experienced operational professionals with backgrounds in public safety, policing, event command, emergency planning, security and incident management.

Our approach is realistic, practical and leadership focused.  Learners are not taught generic scripts.  They are supported to understand behaviour, assess risk, communicate under pressure and lead proportionate responses within their own working environment.

The course is delivered in person because advanced de-escalation and incident leadership require practice, feedback, body language awareness, team coordination and confidence under pressure.
