Course Overview

Someone with a catastrophic bleed can die in minutes, long before an ambulance arrives. In a serious accident, a stabbing or a terrorist attack, the people who save lives are the ones already there. Standard first aid courses touch on bleeding; this course makes it the focus.

Built on 1705 Consultancy’s counter terrorism and protective security work, it teaches staff to recognise life threatening bleeding, apply direct pressure, pack wounds, use haemostatic dressings and apply commercial and improvised tourniquets, recognise and manage shock, and hand over clearly to the ambulance service. It also covers how and where to place public access bleed control kits on your site, and how trauma care fits with Run, Hide, Tell and your Martyn’s Law procedures.

Choose the format that fits your team.

  • Half day: catastrophic bleeding, tourniquets, wound packing, shock and using bleed control kits, with hands on practice.
  • Full day: everything in the half day, plus chest and limb injuries, dealing with more than one casualty, care when the scene may not be safe, and realistic scenario practice in your own environment.

This is a practical course delivered in person. It complements, but does not replace, a regulated workplace qualification such as EFAW or FAW.

About the Trainer
