SAFE OVERSEAS COURSE

Description

This is the basic version of our SAFE course, which provides baseline generic security awareness and understanding to stay safe. The course is underpinned with industry best practice for travel and management of potential threats and the hazards posed. The skills and knowledge gained through the course provide reassurance for staying safe overseas, mitigating risks and developing positive actions when faced with danger.


Scenario based learning will offer context to protect against marauding threats and unknown hazards, developing skills and knowledge to help mitigate the risks from travel. The course covers a variety of topics and touches on first aid, travel planning, conflict resolution, the threat of terrorism and more.


For those who are unable to do a full SAFE course, or do not have the availability this course is ideal, preparing and building confidence around everyday life situations, mitigating risks associated with travel to fragile environments.

Who's it for?

Operating overseas: Commercial companies, Government departments, NGO’s, charities, consultants, contractors, Government contractors, security professionals, media (Press), media (Productions), sporting groups, adventure travel groups, athletes, education groups, travel charity groups, private individuals.


For companies with work forces traveling and working in and around major cities, UK and globally, as well as for universities, overseas secondments, work placements, or on-campus students. It is also very beneficial for spouses, partners and dependants whom are accompanying people who are posted to fragile environments. The SAFE/OS course offers organisational reassurance, compliance, fulfilling the duty of an employer to provide safety and security for employees whom will travel to fragile and hostile environments.


This course is also suitable for international work forces who require safety around their movements to and from the work where the environment presents fragile and hostile risk.

What's involved?

This is a learner centred course delivered face-to-face, and comprising of 8 guided learning hours (1 day). Delivery offers theoretical and practical scenarios to provide context for all learning outcomes. Each outcome is designed and structured to assist individuals with the challenges they may face.


Continued assessment is conducted during the course, where learners must demonstrate competence for all course outcomes listed.

Pre-requisite:

Learners must be a minimum of 18 years of age and must be physically capable of completing the practical assessment. It is also advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English.

If you are travelling to an area which is particularly hazardous (Marked as RED on the FCDO register), you may wish to take one of the following courses:


These are one-day, supplements to our SAFE course:

  • SAFE+: SAFE Plus provides additional training on risks that may be encountered in very hazardous environments where close protection teams form part of the learners movements, and there is the threat of gun fire, IEDs or a vehicle ambush. Find out more here.
  • SAFE/1: SAFE Independent provides additional training on risks that may be encountered in very hazardous environments where the learner does not have the luxury of a close protection team, and is required to be self-serving when hazards and threats present. For example kidnapping and ransom or targeted attacks. Find out more here.
  • SAFE/D: SAFE Disaster provides additional training for the risks posed from natural disasters and major events encountered in remote and potentially hazardous environments, where the learner is required to be self-serving and taught how to adapt and survive. Natural events include; earthquakes, hurricanes, dust storms, tsunamis, floods and wild fires or major events, civil unrest, military action or a breakdown in major infrastructure.
