The SAFE course provides the foundation for personal safety and security in fragile and hostile environments. The course is underpinned with industry best practice for travel and management of potential threats and the hazards posed. The skills and knowledge gained through the course provide reassurance for staying safe overseas, mitigating risks and developing positive actions when faced with danger.

The SAFE course is one of our core training products offered by 1705 Consultancy, initially designed to provide safety and security for FCDO employees and their families. Since the course inception in 2015, Comera Risk and ourselves have provided thousands of individuals with the confidence to stay safe overseas. This course is ideal for anyone planning to travel abroad but equally builds confidence around everyday life situations.

Scenario based learning will offer context to protect against marauding threats and unknown hazards, developing skills and knowledge to help mitigate the risks from travel. Learners develop a range of skills including situational awareness, conflict management, self-defence and first aid which are contextualised in response to potential threats such as terrorism and crime. On completion, learners receive a qualification, which is valid for 3 years.

The course is a Level 3 training programme accredited by Highfield, an Ofqual regulated training provider.

Operating overseas: Commercial companies, Government departments, NGO’s, charities, consultants, contractors, Government contractors, security professionals, media (Press), media (Productions), sporting groups, adventure travel groups, athletes, education groups, travel charity groups, private individuals.

This course is appropriate for those who are travelling to unfamiliar environments overseas, but equally provides the basis for personal security anywhere in the UK. For individuals looking for reassurance, or organisations who have a legal duty to provide safety and security for their employees, traveling to fragile and hostile environments, SAFE is the course for you!

Learners must be a minimum of 18 years of age and must be physically capable of completing the practical assessment. It is also advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English.

These are one-day, supplement to our SAFE course.

• SAFE+: SAFE Plus provides additional training on risks that may be encountered in very hazardous environments where close protection teams form part of the learners movements, and there is the threat of gun fire, IED’s or a vehicle ambush. Find out more here.
• SAFE/1: SAFE Independent provides additional training on risks that may be encountered in very hazardous environments where the learner does not have the luxury of a close protection team, and is required to be self-serving when hazards and threats present. For example kidnapping and ransom or targeted attacks. Find out more here.
• SAFE/D: SAFE Disaster provides additional training for the risks posed from natural disasters and major events encountered in remote and potentially hazardous environments, where the learner is required to be self-serving and taught how to adapt and survive. Natural events include; earthquakes, hurricanes, dust storms, tsunamis, floods and wild fires or major events, civil unrest, military action or a breakdown in major infrastructure. • Re-SAFE: For those who have completed the SAFE course, a refresher is required within a three year period to remain competent in fragile and hostile environments. Re-SAFE is a two-day course which updates and challenges seasoned travellers, refreshing and enhancing the skills previously taught on the SAFE course. Find out more here.
